The story starts with that iconic theme tune, with the audience all joining in, clicking their fingers to the beat as ‘Thing’ appears from a letter box and conducts the audience to do so.

The Addams family are everyone’s favourite dysfunctional family with an equally famous theme tune. It’s a franchise that keeps on giving. Originally created by Charles Addams back in the 30’s as a cartoon strip then following the original 60’s black and white series we have all seen many incarnations including two feature films, animation and more recently the Tim Burton and Netflix produced series ‘Wednesday’. It is Wednesday that is the focus of the production tonight, she’s grown up and dating! Wednesday (Maria Garrett) finds herself falling in love and getting engaged to a ‘normal’ guy, Lucas Beineke (Jacob Fowler). She confesses this to her father, Gomez (Ricardo Afonso) who helps to keep the secret from his wife and Wednesday’s mother Morticia Addams (Alexandra Burke), which we find is easier said than done as Wednesday has invited Lucas’s and his parents Alice and Mal Beineke (Kara Lane and Dale Rapley) over for dinner that evening. Concluding the cast is Grandma (Lesley Joseph), Uncle Fester (Clive Rowe) Pudsey (Nicholas McLean) and Lurch (Dickon Gough) who between them cause chaos and mayhem.

This is a great piece of family entertainment, heart-warming, funny with some gorgeous Addams family dark twists. Highlights would have to be most of Lesley Joseph’s lines. Great delivery and presence. We love, love, love Alexandra Burke in all her previous roles, but wasn’t too sure about her casting here and we missed the opportunity of hearing some powerhouse vocals from her. Clive Rowe’s uncle fester gave much comedic relief throughout the evening. Maria Garrett was our Wednesday for the evening, and she wowed with her vocals, one that we will be hearing about a lot in the future.

Some of the scenes jarred a little and seemed like unnecessary fillers but were entertaining non the less. An irritation for me was whenever the cast entered the stage via the backlit door at the back of the stage before descending the staircase, the crew could be seen constantly pulling the doors closed or cast members could be seen stood waiting to enter the balcony doors. These lighting issues took me away from the moment and what I should have had my attention on.

Sibling rivalry and dramas with the in-laws with plenty of kooky and wackiness is something most families can relate too, so this is a show most will be able to relate too. This Tour is just 2 months long and heads to Canterbury next week & Blackpool to end the run. All Manchester Theatrical can say is you better get your fingers ready to ‘CLICK – CLICK and book this funny, creepy, kooky show asap before it moves on.
